First off, a quick recap: Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) is 23 and waiting until marriage to have sex. That sounds like a lot, and it's really only the beginning. Janeis a telenovela (based on the Venezuelan Juana la virgen), so if you lack the threshold for a healthy dose of magical realism and plot lines like secret twins and frequent attempted murder, this may not be for you. (But it probably is! Pro tip: Watch the first two episodes before you make a judgment call.)

What distinguishes Janefrom so much other melodramatic fare (as a lifelong viewer of Bollywood movies, it was right up my alley), is an unwavering sincerity in the writing and performances. There is impeccable attention to story and character, and we do not deserve authenticity and talent that is Rodriguez, the show's glowing heart. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll gasp with surprise, and you'll genuinely fall in love with this beautiful family of characters and their chaotic world.

Thanks to a sweet deal, CW shows end up on Netflix eight days following the season finale, which means Season 4 of Janewill be up by the time you binge 1-3 (available now).

Jane the Virginreturns in fall.
